Exclusive: Caleb Wilson talks transitioning to NBA life 🚨

📍 Newsletter Exclusive: Every edition, we'll feature exclusive reporting, interviews, and intel from ClutchPoints insiders Brett Siegel and Tomer Azarly that you won't find anywhere else in your email inbox!

LAS VEGAS — After years of watching top picks get shut down after only a couple of Summer League games, Caleb Wilson chose a different path, playing four games in Las Vegas, including a back-to-back set.

Before the games could be played on the court, however, the rookie class took part in the NBA’s Rookie Transition Program, where players received seminars on the life changes they’ll undergo as professional basketball players. The first session took place before the first day of Las Vegas NBA Summer League, with former Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Bosh in attendance to provide his insight.

Wilson spoke exclusively with ClutchPoints insider Tomer Azarly after the first session, where he broke down what he took away from the seminar and what he's looking forward to in his rookie season.

Tomer Azarly: You guys took part in the Rookie Transition Program in Las Vegas. How did it go and what did you take away from it?

Caleb Wilson: I just took away that there's a lot of stuff that comes with being an NBA player outside of the game. There's two aspects of life, being on the court and off the court, and you just have to protect yourself off the court by making smart decisions.

Tomer Azarly: Is there anything in particular you were looking forward to learning about when you entered that session?

Caleb Wilson: Just how to attack life outside of basketball. That's what I was looking forward to. I feel like basketball is going to figure itself out, but figuring out how to maintain a good, healthy, positive life and mental mindset was actually important.

Tomer Azarly: You guys had Chris Bosh in the building, a guy who's played and won at the highest level. What was it like to have him there and what's something you took away from him?

Caleb Wilson: It was big. He's a legend, and just having someone there that's played at the highest level and someone that you respect and someone that you idolize, it just meant a lot. It was just nice to meet the people in person in general. Chris just told me that he really enjoyed watching me play this past year. That was just big for me knowing he's such a legendary player and he played power forward.

Tomer Azarly: You played four Summer League games when a lot of the top picks only play two games and then sit out. Why was it important for you to play, especially on a back-to-back set, in Vegas?

Caleb Wilson: It was just really important because I feel like it prepared me for the next level, being in the NBA and playing back-to-backs. Also I just really wanted to get a win before I was out and done playing.

The Latest ✍️

For a draft class being heralded as quite possibly the greatest of all time, landing in Las Vegas and walking into Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV for the first time was surreal for AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer, and all of the other top picks from the 2026 draft class.

Making that jump from college to the NBA is always an adjustment, no matter how good of a player you are. Last year, Kon Knueppel, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe, and other top rookies said so behind the scenes, which is why ClutchPoints spoke with some of the marquee names at Summer League this year to capture their mindset and journeys firsthand.
