The Boston Celtics have been exploring multiple avenues to improve their championship outlook this NBA offseason, including the idea of possibly trading five-time All-Star and 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown. However, league sources close to the situation told ClutchPoints that Brown has not approached any member of the front office or team president Brad Stevens to ask for a trade.

Over the last several weeks leading up to the 2026 NBA Draft, the Celtics have shown a willingness to discuss potential trades involving Brown with other teams. Before he was traded to the Miami Heat, the Celtics made a strong push to trade for two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, offering a package that included Brown and future draft assets, sources said.

Now that the Bucks' star was traded to Miami, and other players of his magnitude are not currently on the trade market, rival front-office personnel who spoke to ClutchPoints are downplaying the chances of him actually being traded this summer.

Even so, Stevens and the Celtics' front office continue to listen to inquiries coming their way from teams expressing interest in Brown, according to ESPN. Among those with interest in the Celtics' two-way star, ClutchPoints has learned that both the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans have held trade dialogue with Boston.

Conversations regarding Brown's future are expected to continue past the start of free agency on June 30 and into NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, which begins on July 9.

The basketball gods and lottery balls were on the LA Clippers' side as the NBA Draft Lottery presented the franchise with an opportunity to take one of the top prospects in this year's stellar class. On Tuesday night, the Clippers selected 19-year-old Keaton Wagler from Illinois with the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

How quickly things can change. Just a few months ago, the Charlotte Hornets were riding high as the hottest team in the NBA. Led by a deadly trio of shooters in LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel, and Brandon Miller, who powered the league’s best starting five by net rating in 2025-26, the Hornets were on a tear from January onward. The season might have ended on a low note with a disappointing play-in exit, but the future was undoubtedly bright.

Fast forward to today, and Ball is on his way to Minnesota for a pick-laden package of assets. Let’s talk about what this trade means for each team, and why it actually makes a lot of sense for both sides.

Minnesota Receives: LaMelo Ball, Josh Green

Charlotte Receives: Naz Reid, 2033 first-round pick, 2028, 2029, and 2030 first-round pick swaps, 2029, 2032, and 2033 second-round picks

Why Minnesota said yes: The Hornets’ combination of high-volume outside shooting and elite offensive rebounding was a winning formula last season, and Minnesota appears to be trying to imitate it with this move. With Ball at the helm, the Timberwolves finally got their hands on a truly elite playmaker who is among the best in the business at finding open teammates on the perimeter. Anchored by an elite rebounder in Rudy Gobert down low and surrounded by dynamic shooters, including Anthony Edwards, Ayo Dosunmu, and Jaden McDaniels, the Wolves’ front office will be banking on Ball to work the same magic in Minneapolis that he did in Charlotte.

Why Charlotte said yes: A head-scratcher at first, this trade makes a little more sense for the Hornets if you think about it from the perspective of the NBA's new lottery system. While they nearly rode a late-season hot streak into the playoffs, Charlotte was still a long way away from true contention. Under the league's new draft lottery rules, teams that finish in the 8-10 range now have a much more realistic path to landing a top pick than they did in previous years, and the Hornets are hoping the balls might bounce their way into landing another top pick to go along with Knueppel and Miller. The addition of Naz Reid can’t be overlooked either, a floor-spacing big man who fits their system to a tee. And with Coby White agreeing to a new three-year, $74 million contract right after the trade, Charlotte already has Ball's replacement waiting in the wings.
